Make Me a Sinner

Temptation. That red juicy apple dangling before your eyes with a big "Do Not Eat" sign glaring at you. It's not that you're confused - you know you shouldn't eat the apple. You know the consequences are probably awful and when you rationalize it, you realize that no apple could possibly be worth it. But as hard as you try to get away from it, to resist the urge to sink your teeth into its raw flesh, you can't get it off your mind. So you knit and you shop but you're always thinking about how delicious that apple would be; how mouthwatering, how refreshing, how satisfying. And you do what any ignorant, self-indulgent individual would do: you ask yourself "what's the worst that could happen?" I mean, you don't know for sure what the consequences are; you've just been told that they exist. The pleasure you could get from finally giving into your desires - finally holding that crimson fruit in your mouth, letting juice drip down your chin - is much more tangible than any fear of the unknown. Adam and Eve couldn't fight it, so why should you? So with the beginning of another year - another long year of rules and obligations - remember this: we've already been banished from Eden. What's the harm with taking a bite from an apple here and there? Embrace desire! And have a very happy new year.
